// About Me

I'm a Senior Software Engineer with six years of experience building cloud-native enterprise software and production applications. Throughout my career, I've enjoyed working across the full stack, from backend services and data models to frontend applications, and more recently product strategy and marketing through building WaySide, always with a focus on building software that's reliable, maintainable, and solves real-world problems.

Professionally, I work on large-scale workforce management software at Dayforce, where I've contributed to cloud modernization initiatives, performance improvements, and complex customer-facing features for enterprise clients. Outside of work, I built WaySide from the ground up, designing, developing, launching, and operating a production mobile application. Working on both enterprise systems and an independent product has given me two complementary perspectives: building reliable software as part of a large engineering organization, and owning every technical and product decision from idea to launch.

Before software became my career, I studied Nanotechnology Engineering at the University of Waterloo, including an eight-month research term at Soochow University in China. Living abroad introduced me to new cultures, sparked a lasting interest in travel and photography, and ultimately inspired the idea for WaySide, a travel application built around the kinds of challenges I experienced firsthand while planning backpacking trips through China, and later the world.

Whether I'm improving enterprise systems or shipping features for my own product, I'm motivated by the same goal: building software that people genuinely find useful, while continuing to grow as an engineer through solving challenging technical and product problems.

WaySide is a production travel application I designed, built, launched, and continue to operate independently. From architecture and mobile development to monetization and user acquisition, I owned every stage of bringing the product from an idea to a live application.

01
The problem

Group trips often become scattered across messages, spreadsheets, and payment apps. WaySide was built around a simple idea: planning a trip should be collaborative from the beginning, with itineraries, expenses, and important information organized in one place.

02
Building the product

I designed and built WaySide as a full-stack mobile application using React Native and Firebase. The architecture was designed around real-time collaboration, scalable backend services, and the ability to continue evolving the product as usage grew.

03
From Launch to Real Users

Bringing a product to life required more than writing code. I managed mobile releases, app store requirements, analytics, onboarding improvements, and feedback loops to move from an initial launch toward a product used by real users.

04
Monetization & growth

After launch, I focused on understanding how users discovered and interacted with WaySide. I implemented subscriptions through RevenueCat, experimented with Apple Search Ads, and iterated on onboarding and product decisions based on user behavior.

Outside of work, I spend a lot of time traveling and taking photos along the way. It's part of what pulled me toward building a travel app in the first place. I post some of my photography on this page, if you're curious.
